AXA EQUITABLE HELPS BUSINESS CLIENTS RECRUIT AND RETAIN TOP TALENT

Company Introduces Employer-Sponsored Universal Life Insurance Product

New York, NY, Oct. 23, 2007 -For many employers, recruiting and retaining top talent is critical for their business's viability and profitability. To aid business clients with their executive benefits needs, AXA Equitable introduced today (in approved states) a competitive new life insurance product - Athena Universal Life Employer-Sponsored Life Insurance (Athena UL-ESLISM). The announcement was made by Claude Methot, Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer.

Athena UL- ESLISM is a flexible-premium universal life insurance product designed for use in employer-sponsored business insurance cases, where at least five business owners and/or key executives are to be insured, typically as part of an executive benefit plan. Common uses for Athena UL- ESLISM include:

  • Deferral Plans
  • Supplemental Executive Retirement Plans (SERPs)
  • Multi-Life Split Dollar Plans
  • Multi-Life Executive Bonus Plans

Valuable Benefits for Business Clients and their Key Employees
Often highly-compensated executives are restricted by the contribution limits of qualified plans, such as 401(k)s. Deferral Plans, SERPs and similar nonqualified executive benefit plans can provide executives with an additional source of retirement income, and often a survivorship benefit to their spouse or designated beneficiary. Such plans can give a company a competitive advantage in recruiting and retaining senior executives.

"One UL product does not fit all," said Mr. Methot. "AXA Equitable's Athena Series is designed to offer individuals and businesses a choice of universal life policy focus and flexibility, so that clients can customize their coverage to their priorities. With the addition of Athena UL-ESLI to the series, we now offer employers an attractive vehicle for funding their executive benefits plans."

Employers choosing Athena UL- ESLISM as an executive benefit plan informal funding vehicle can gain from:

  • Tax Deferrals - Life insurance offers employers tax-deferral on any policy cash value build up
  • Loans - Life insurance offers employers the flexibility to access policy values through loans usually without triggering a current income tax liability.
  • Death Benefit - A participant's death may trigger the payment of nonqualified plan benefits to survivors. Life insurance death proceeds with the employee as the insured are typically income tax-free and help to ensure that the employers will have funds available to pay this benefit. Additionally, any death benefit proceeds that are in excess of the promised survivor benefits can be used to help offset additional costs associated with the death of the key employee.
  • Control of Assets - Life insurance policies that informally fund Deferral Plans and SERPs are owned by the corporation. They are company assets just like real estate, inventory or money in the bank. (Employers must satisfy employee notice and consent requirements prior to establishing a policy with the employee as the insured.)

About the AXA Equitable Athena SeriesSM
The Athena SeriesSM also includes Athena Universal LifeSM with a built-in Lapse Protection Rider (Athena UL-LPR SM) and Athena Universal LifeSM Death Benefit (Athena UL-DB SM). Depending on current and anticipated future needs, the series also offers a choice of optional riders for an additional cost. For corporate owned policies, corporate alternative minimum tax implications should be considered.

Athena UL-ESLISM (Policy forms #s: 07-300 or state variations) is issued by and is a service mark of AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, New York, NY. All guarantees are based on the claims-paying ability of AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company.
