AXA EQUITABLE LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE 401(K) PRODUCT, REFLECTING A RENEWED COMMITMENT TO PENSION MARKET
NEW YORK – AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of AXA Financial, Inc., announced today the launch of Retirement StrategiesSM, an innovative 401(k) pension plan product designed for small- to mid-size businesses.
Retirement StrategiesSM is a group deferred variable annuity that provides flexibility in plan design and pricing, a broad range of investment options and state-of-the-art recordkeeping services. It will take the place of the company’s MomentumSM Series products for new sales, except for the Owners 401(k) plan which will continue in MomentumSM.
“This new product illustrates to our clients and to the industry that we are strongly committed to this segment of the retirement services business for the long term,” Christopher M. “Kip” Condron, President and Chief Executive Officer of AXA Financial, said in making the announcement. “We have taken considerable time to develop a product that provides us with a strong competitive edge in the pension plan market at a time when huge numbers of Americans need to plan for their retirement.”
Retirement StrategiesSM provides the flexibility that accommodates clients’ desires to provide customized plans for their employees. In addition to the traditional 401(k) plan, Retirement StrategiesSM supports Safe Harbor 401(k) and age-weighted/new comparability 401(k) plans, as well as profit-sharing, money purchase and defined benefit plans.
Plan sponsors will be able to choose from more than 80 investment options, representing some of the best-known fund families and all major investment categories. Retirement StrategiesSM also offers plan sponsors the ability to customize their plan’s investment lineup with company stock and self-directed brokerage accounts. In addition, the product offers a Guaranteed Interest Option (GIO) to guarantee a minimum return.
Further, Retirement StrategiesSM offers three different styles of professional money management from which plan participants may choose: single-manager portfolios, multiple-manager portfolios, and five asset allocation portfolios designed to simplify plan participants’ option selections. AXA Equitable will serve as investment co-fiduciary for its proprietary investment options, which are subadvised by leading money management firms
A full-service record-keeping platform will be administered by Boston Financial Data Services (BFDS). AXA Equitable believes that BFDS’s sophisticated technology platform provides a high level of service to 401(k) clients through its call center, voice-response unit and internet offerings.
AXA Equitable determined that this record-keeping platform, in addition to offering many reporting and transactional features, reduces the time required to enter data and the potential for errors. A web-based, rules-based system scans for errors before payroll data is processed, easing the data entry process.
The platform provides extensive online reporting capabilities, enabling clients to submit enrollment data for new plan participants, update information, perform many types of transactions and access plan reports, forms and other information.
Plan participants benefit from a platform offering easy access. Among the many services available, eligible participants can enroll online through AXA Equitable’s EQAccess, where enrollees can also request distributions and transfers among investment options. Subject to certain state or other requirements, participants in profit-sharing or 401(k) plans can request loans online without submitting or signing paper forms. The VRU recognizes callers by their voice patterns, eliminating the need to remember passwords. In addition to web access and the VRU, plan participants can also obtain information and execute transactions with customer service representatives during regular business hours.
Retirement StrategiesSM clients also receive a full range of communication and educational materials, designed to maximize participation and guide the decision-making for plan participants and potential plan participants.
Retirement StrategiesSM (contract form # 2005 GAC – QP or state variation) is a group deferred flexible premium combination fixed and variable annuity contract issued by AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company and distributed by AXA Advisors, LLC. Guarantees are based on claims-paying ability of AXA Equitable.
